If you are a praise and worship song leader then you will know what I am talking about!
I get a lot of questions from praise and worship leaders on how I sing all the time without getting my voice cracked but believe me, I have been through all that and have learnt some very important lessons.
In this blog I will be your personal vocal singing help.
Ever experienced those embarrassing moments when your voice cracks while singing!
Or you finished the first song, strong with much shouting, jumping and excellently but then the second song starts and alas! your voice fails you.
Yeah, now I see you nodding in agreement!
Here are some of the tips that I have used overtime.
Voice cracks occur when the muscles used in singing lose control while singing.
It is usually because you are doing the following:
1. Singing above your vocal range therefore straining your voice.
This is common with most praise and worship leaders because the general feeling is that the more you shout the more the "Spirit moves". Not so!
Praise and worship song leading is about helping your listeners to connect with the presence of God through the music in praise and worship songs. Screaming the song robs your listeners of enjoying the music. You can communicate, lead and entertain without shouting.
2. Poor sound technical management can also cause the singer to shout because he/she is not hearing from the sound monitors. The cure for this is to have a proper sound check with the technical department before the event begins.
3. Excessive talking can also damage your vocal cords. A singer must learn to speak softly and not above vocal range to avoid unnecessary straining of the voice.
4. Exposure to dust and harsh weather can also dry up your voice. Always protect your voice. Drink a lot of Water to keep your voice lubricated.
5. Rehearse: While practicing the song, take note of the pitches that could be problematic. Replace that note with a lower note that works and always remember this whenever taking the song. However, it is not advisable to over rehearse as it may also put a lot of strain on your voice before the main event.
6. Rest your body: I have observed that my voice will be strained if my body is strained therefore; it is advisable to take some time out to rest mentally and physically before you perform.
7. Speak in tongues : Yes you heard me.
Romans 8:26-28
meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along the way. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. 27 He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. 28 That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

ReplyDeleteMAMA SINACH..i love this post.this is the best i have got from you apart from your songs.I know P.Chris has released you all to manifest and affect the world. Please i plead from the depth of my heart that you should use this blog to give more tips on how you made it as a gospel artist.A lot of youths look up to you as a rolemodel and mentor. One of the things that is lacking in this field is getting quality mentors that will really expose one in this Music Field.Keep posting and sharing.True Leaders are those who empower the next generation. You can start a Singing competition that will connect you to your millions of followers outside BLW-Christ Embassy. i am not a member ,but for our choir in Church and so many Ministries ,you area ROLE MODEL.Please use this medium to educate, mentor and inspire the next generation. Its better to end up as a COACH than a STAR.P.Chris is a Coach and that is why you are a STAR.THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ReplyDeleteGlory to God. Your songs are just so inspiring, I feel so much more closer to God just by watching and listening to you as you worship. We bless God because His word is true, "23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” I bless God for you, Durban, S.A is waiting for you *THATS AN INVITATION*
